At the time of his convictions his victim was prevented, by archaic gag laws, from speaking about the sexual abuse using her own identity. No such restriction applied to her perpetrator, who effectively got a free run in the media with his version of events, casting his victim as a sexually provocative teenager and his conduct as a lapse of judgment.
